This bench project has been our last ESLP and we feel like these projects have been very memorable to our freshman year. We have gained many experiences with collaborating with a group and building! In addition, we would like to thank all of our parents for helping us out with buying all the materials and taking us to each house for every project.
Looking back, the thing we would improve for the whole year would be the timing. We would try to start each project sooner, and have an idea of what each project was instead of having a day or two to come up with an idea. Also, if we had to redo this, we would switch our last two ESLP projects. Our third project was painting the shed, and that was a big task. Whereas our last project was building a bench. We would switch them to have a better, "going out with a bang!" feeling.

About Our Project
Our project for the final ESLP is to build a bench. Our group decided on a date and got to work! It took us a total of three hours and it was lots of fun to build.

Activity Log
For this project we were able to do it all in one day. When every one first arrived we started to paint the top boards. We experimented with two different paint colors, and since we couldn't decide which color to use, we decided to go with both! We also chose to use a cool technique by painting one of the two base colors and then do streaks of the second paint, giving it a "rustic" look. We alternated between the dark blue and the light purple paints. We would paint one board blue and once it dried, we'd paint on purple streaks, and we'd paint the next board purple with blue streaks. We used a technique called dry brushing here, to ensure not too much paint would come off the brush when we painted the streaks. This is what gave it the rustic look.

When we were finished with that we let the boards dry for a bit and made sure the frame was ready! The boards turned out super cool, and we're really happy with the paint job we did! We think it looks super modern and trendy but also really rustic and antique at the same time!

Next we painted the frame of the bench before putting on the top boards. We used practically the same technique as when we painted the top boards, just on the sides. We also decided beforehand, that we would not paint the legs of the bench. We thought that they had a really antique look, and we wanted that to show!

Lastly, we screwed on the top part of the bench. We screwed each board individually, and we also made sure the spacing was even between each board. One person would hold down the wood board, while someone else would use the drill to screw to screw down the board.

Once we finished screwing down all the boards, our bench was finished! Then we just left it outside to dry! Yay! It looks so good!

We love how our bench turned out, and we could not be happier! We dropped it off at the school, and our last ESLP of the 2017-2018 school year was officially complete!!!

Our budget for this project was luckily small. We were able to reuse some of the blue paint from the shed project and Kelsey's family had some leftover paint from their own shed. In the end the only thing that our group had to buy was the screws.
